F-Zero: Maximum Velocity is a futuristic racing game developed for the Game Boy Advance. It features high-speed anti-gravity vehicles racing on intricate tracks. The game originally includes a map screen that can lead to screen retention on modern displays due to its low refresh rate effect. A software modification, known as No Map, removes the map to prevent potential burn-in issues while maintaining gameplay on contemporary screens.
F-Zero Maximum Velocity's map screen utilises the low refresh rate of the original GBA screen to give the impression of a transparent map during races. This is done by rapidly switching the map's visibility on and off. While this does work fine on real hardware, it has the unfortunate side effect of causing screen retention/temporary burn-in on modern displays, not limited to: IPS displays, OLED, 4k TV sets, etc.
This hack simply removes the map entirely to allow you to play this on your modern television or monitor without the risk of burning the map into your display.
