Final Fantasy V Advance: FF5A (USA) Font Modification is a ROM hack designed to enhance the font aesthetics of the Game Boy Advance version of Final Fantasy V. Targeting the small menu font, the hack improves character clarity by adjusting various letters, making them more legible and visually appealing. While the title screen font remains unchanged, the modifications aim to create a more cohesive experience akin to the European version.
The small/menu font of the US version of Final Fantasy 5 Advance is unattractive and irritating to (at least) the author, especially the lowercase letter A (simply ugly) and the lowercase letter L (indistingushable from uppercase I). This ROM hack attempts to heighten the capital characters (based on the EU version of FF5A) and to adjust most other characters, making the overall font similar to Dawn of Souls' small font but also more faithful to the large font of FF5A.
Even though the lowercase L is 1 more pixel wide (to be more readable and discernable from uppercase I), no text overflows have been found (yet).
Nonetheless, the font in the title screen is not modified. Graphical data in the ROM are rather cryptic and undecipherable despite exhaustive searches. It would be fixed in the next version.
