All 20 worlds have been changed to accommodate the "B" run. I've always felt the original SMB2USA was a bit on the easy side since you can "B" dash through most of the game with little consequence. Now most of the levels require use of the "B" run. For instance, sometimes you'll need to drop off of a ladder/chain/vine from the top and you'll miss the platform if you don't hold down "B" as you're letting go. You may also need to super jump and hold down "B" to reach certain platforms.

INTRODUCTION
--------------------------
Thank you for downloading the IPS patch "Black Sheep Dream - Super Mario Bros." for the NES. This patch contains reconstructed levels for all 20 worlds of Super Mario Bros. 2.

PATCHING THE ROM
----------------------------------
First you will need a patching tool. This can be found at zopharsdomain.net or through
a search at google.com for "IPS Patching". Please apply this patch to one of the following...
Super Mario Bros. 2 (U) (PRG0)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (U) (PRG1)
The patch MAY work on Super Mario USA (J) and Super Mario Bros. 2 (PC10), However I haven't tested either of these fully. They should work OK but if not, then only use the patch on the original Super Mario Bros. 2 ROMs.

ABOUT BLACK SHEEP DREAM PATCH
--------------------------------------------------------------
This hack was started back in late 2015. Roughly 30% of the levels were changed during 2015/2016. However it sat dorment through the rest of 2017, all of 2018 and finally picked up around the middle of 2019. Working on it off and on with a few levels changed here and there I eventually got about 75%-80% done by the early/middle of 2020. Throughout 2020 I've been trying to finish all levels and balance the difficulty as to make it challenging, but not overly difficult.
Also as a design choice each of the levels in all 20 worlds you can backtrack to the beginning of each world. What this means is you can always go back throughout the entire world from beginning to end just in case you missed a mushroom/coins etc. This can also be done in each of the "-3" worlds all the way up to entering the Mask Gate/Hawkmouth. I attempted to make it so you don't get trapped anywhere in the game. There is always a way forward (or backward) without resorting to using the suicide code (pause, hold Up, B & A on controller 2, then unpause.)
As stated I tried to balance the difficulty. The first couple of worlds start off simple enough, however the last couple of worlds can be really challenging. None of the characters attributes have been changed. For beginners I would suggest using Princess as she can float over most obstacles. Every character can complete each world but it may be easier with some characters over others in certain worlds.
I've tested this patch thoroughly but there is always a chance I missed something somewhere. If you do find a glitch, I'd like to know about it so drop me a line at

KNOWN BUGS
-----------------------
Occasionally when entering subspace, Collecting a mushroom or going through a door while holding a key causes the game to exhibit a light door to appear on screen. This also happens sometimes when entering a door with a key. Not sure why it does this and it doesn't occur everytime. Shouldn't affect normal gameplay though.
Not a glitch in this hack itself but SMB2USA is very flaky with it's ladder/chain/vine gripping physics. Slight moving of the d-pad to the left/right while climbing may cause you to fall off unintendedly. This is slightly more prevelant in this hack. There are "ladder squares" on all transitional screens to help alleviate this problem, but it is still possible to lose a life accidentally falling off a ladder/chain/vine.
