Super Mario Bros.: Dither-B-Gone + Shiny Bricks Microhacks is a compilation of two micro-patches for the Nintendo Entertainment System version of Super Mario Bros. The Dither-B-Gone patch removes dithering from pipe shading, while the Shiny Bricks patch replaces the original SMB1 bricks with stylized bricks from Super Mario Bros. 2. Both patches enhance the game's visual fidelity without altering gameplay.
This is a collection of 2 micro-patches for SMB1
-Dither-B-Gone
This hack will not change your life. It will not change the way you play Super Mario Bros. It will, however, change the shading on the pipes to remove the dithering. In the entire Mario franchise, this is the only place where dithering is ever used.
*Dithering is a shading practice used in limited-color games to approximate an in-between color. By checkerboarding betweeen one color and another, the bleed on CRT Televisions would make it look like a color halfway in between. In the era of super-sharp HDMI and emulation, the effect is lost, and makes the graphics look dated.
-Shiny Bricks
Between SMB1 and SMB2j, a few of the graphics are changed. Preference for which game looks better is subjective, but this hacker thinks the SMB2j bricks look better. This micropatch changes the SMB1 bricks into SMB2j bricks.

==Dither-B-Gone
This hack will not change your life. It will not change the way you play Super Mario Bros. It will, however, change the shading on the pipes to remove the dithering.* In the entire Mario Franchise, this is the only place where dithering is ever used. It would be tempting to claim this as the smallest, most inconsequential graphics hack ever, but that honor still remains with "Fix Misplaced Pixel in Logo" for Super Mario World (http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/4799/).
