This is intended as an NES alternative for the 2013 game Garfield Kart by Microids.
It is a hack of RARE's 1987 game RC Pro-Am for the Nintendo Entertainment System. (Revision A, specifically.)
This hack is based on the 2008 NES hack "Mario Kart" by Elbobelo and the 2017 version by PacnSacDave. While most changes have been reverted or redesigned here, elements like the Mario jingle are still present.

How to Play:

Race your kart to the head of the highly competitive pack. Push it to the limit on every corner as your tires squeal and you jockey for position to take the lead. Increase your kart's performance with "turbo," "top speed" and "sticky tire" items found on the race courses. Look for useful missiles and bombs while avoiding water and oil hazards. Collect bonus letters to unlock three different kart types and characters. 32 exciting tracks await your challenge.

1 Player Game only.

LEFT/RIGHT - Steer kart to the left and right.
B - Used to accelerate.
A - Used for horn, Missile or Bomb.
START - Start game / Pause game.
UP/DOWN - Not used.
SELECT - Not used. (Exits attract mode.)

A high score table keeps track of the top 6 high scores.
High scores are erased once the power is turned off.

On each track, race to the finish. Race ends when the first kart crosses the finish line. If you place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, you proceed to the next track. If you place 4th, your game is over. You have three continues per game.

Track items to avoid:
Puddles
Rain Squalls
Oil Slicks
Pop-Up Barrier Walls
Skulls (Deplete your weapons)
Other drivers

Collect or roll over items on the track that help you:

High speed arrows
Roll Cage (protects from damage)
Missiles (Five per pickup. Shoot with A button)
Bombs (Five per pickup. Drop with A button)
Ammunition stars (for missiles/bombs)

Pick up the Roll Cages before the other drivers do.
Save your missiles and bombs until you need them most, and are within range. They are saved from one race to the next.

Collect items to upgrade your kart. These are displayed between races on the Track Conditions screen.

Turbo Acceleration
Hotter Engine (Higher top speed)

Bonus Letters for faster karts:
Collect letter "G." If you collect enough of these bonus letters to spell GARFIELD, you receive a Super Bonus 40,000 points and you earn certification to drive a faster kart with a different character.

Garfield: Pick-up truck
The slowest racer. Bonus items on the track will speed you up and increase your max speed.

Jon Arbuckle: Off-roader
A faster racer.

Odie: Race car
The fastest racer.

Race for trophies:
You receive a trophy for every race you complete. How many can you win, and just how good are you?

Cheat codes:
Any cheat code that works with RC Pro-Am for the Nintendo Entertainment System will work for Garfield Kart. An XML file is included which can be imported into the Mesen emulator.
