HeroQuest: No Music Edition is a modified version of the Nintendo Entertainment System game HeroQuest. This edition disables the background music to reduce repetition during extended gameplay sessions. It is compatible with both PAL and NTSC formats, focusing on the more complete PAL prototype. Players can find IPS patches to customize sound effects for their preferred regional settings.
The music is fantastic and legendary, but for long sessions it could be a bit repetitive. This patches the late PAL prototype of HeroQuest to disable the music. Patches are included for both NTSC or PAL SFX timing. There are no other known differences between PAL and NTSC besides Music and SFX. See the readme for more details.
Do not use "Hero Quest (USA) (Proto).nes" as it is an early (and more unfinished) prototype that is already NTSC. The later PAL prototype is much more complete, which is the version targeted.
IPS files will either patch the game to not use music with the PAL or NTSC timing. NTSC SFX is timed appropriately for 60hz.
After patching the NTSC version, remove "(Europe)" from the file name so emulators won't think it's still PAL (FCEUX). Otherwise, if you're using the PAL version, it works as intended.
