Adventure Island, known in Japan as Takahashi Meijin no Bouken-jima, is a side-scrolling platform video game developed by Hudson Soft. First released for the Famicom and MSX platforms in Japan on September 12, 1986, it was further launched in North America on the Nintendo Entertainment System in September 1988, and in PAL territories in 1992 under the title Adventure Island Classic. The game was an adaptation of Sega's Wonder Boy, originally developed by Escape, presently Westone Bit Entertainment. Several sequels independently developed by Hudson Soft followed Adventure Island.
