As of 2006, this is hailed as one of the greatest NES hacks of all time. This Super Mario Brothers 3 hack changes the game right down to the core by tweaking the actual game engine itself!
Aside from the ‘typical’ graphics and text changes, this hack alters musical melodies, a full line up of all new levels, new power ups, new abilities for Mario, and even new enemies! When I say new, I'm not talking about changed graphics; I'm talking about completely new power ups and monsters. Money mushrooms, invisible Mario, time stopping potions, Kuribo shoes in any level that don't disappear, shy guys that create projectiles, heat seeking bullet bills, and others are just the beginning of the changes made to this game.
On top of that, you have random weather patterns on every stage, boss battles on every stage, and infinite lives, so your coins go to more useful purposes. They will be used to buy items from Toad's house and get some level exits to appear. Let's not forget stored, and switchable, power ups such as those found in Super Mario World!
This description really doesn't do this hack justice. It's certainly impressive to say the least. Just download it and try it out! It's definitely one of the most advanced SMB3 hacks to date and pretty darn fun as well!
Mario Adventure Simple Manual

How to Patch
Depending on the version of the SMB3 rom you have, you'll have to use a different patch.
Mario_Adventure_0.ips is for the SMB3 rom Super Mario Bros. 3 (PRG 0) U.nes rom file name.
Mario_Adventure_1.ips is for the SMB3 rom Super Mario Bros. 3 (PRG 1) U.nes rom file name.
They are not the same, so if one doesn't work, try the other, if that doesn't work, get a
new rom.
This hack should work with most major emulators, including Nesticle (though if you
use Nesticle, you may want to use save states, since the SRAM isn't supported for SMB3 in
Nesticle). I recommend using FCEU.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Palette
If your emulator supports palette files, use the included palette file called
Mario_Adventure.pal. It is fx3's palette file, but I renamed it since some emulators
support file name palette association. If you do not use FX3's palette, the game will NOT
look the same. So take 3 seconds out of your life and load that palette (included) with my hack
to get the full enjoyment.

Central Hub and the Worlds:
The Central Hub is the Warp Zone. From here Mario can access any world 1 through 7. Beating a world only requires Mario
beat the Koopa Kid of that world. Once Mario beats a world, a small box on the lower right will have a check mark
in the proper world box (1-7, going left to right). Mario can play any world at any time. To leave a world, either beat
it or reset the game. After complete a world, Mario can re-enter it from the Warp Zone and skip over the levels
freely move simply moving over them. Not only can Mario re-enter worlds, but he can else re-enter beaten levels in
the current world. However, if you reset your game mid-world, you WILL have to replay all the levels again! Only
completing a world will allow Mario to skip levels.
It's also rumored that something happens when you complete all the worlds and unlock all the locks!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saving:
The game will save some of your progress as you go along. The game saves the following statuses:
Coins
Score
Time
All Items
Item Box
Kuribo Shoe Storage
Worlds Completed
Keys Gotten
Locks Unlocked
This will save as part of the battery back up, thus, if you want to play fair, you don't have to use save states.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Erasing A Game
At the title screen, when Press Start appears, press [Up] + [Select] to bring the erase game prompt.
Pressing [A] will erase the game, pressing [B] will cancel it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keys
Each world has 1 hidden key in it. Mario must travel from level to level completing each and keeping an eye for
any odd areas that might be a potential door way to a key! If Mario can't find it, he can always go back later
on after receiving a clue after defeating the Koopa Kids. There are keys, there are locks on the Warp Zone.
Coincidence? I think not!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coins
As normally expected, Mario can collect coins through out levels. However, these coins do not give extra lives.
Instead, Mario might want to take them to the local Mushroom Houses to spend! He may walk out with something good
or something bad! Try searching for hidden golden mushrooms for a quick coin bonus! Mario's pockets can
only hold 9999 coins.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Items
Mario has a plethora of new items at his disposal! The Spade and Heart power-ups can give twice the advantage
where else the coin power-up can make the Mushroom coin currancy rate sky rocket! The Warp whistle used to take you
to the Warp Zone, but what does it do now? Just try it and find out for yourself! Every world has something to
offer for the Warp Whistle!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Power Ups
Mario has a few new power ups for this adventure, namely the newest ones are the following:
Fire Fire Mario:
Fire Fire Mario is just like Fire Mario, except he throws straight fireballs that can go through walls and
he can jump higher!
Invisible Mario:
From the Mario 64 era, Invisible Mario can temporarily go behind any background on a level. Pressing [Down] + [B]
activates his power for a limited time. While behind a background, Mario is almost invulnerable to attack. On
the plus side, Invisible Mario can stomp many more enemies with this power up!
Magic Mario:
Magic Mario is one tough cookie! He can take a punch three times before he's down! He throws magic stars
that are quite powerful and he can stomp a lot of enemies down!
Kuribo's Mario:
Not a new power up, but now Mario can use the shoe in any level and in any situation! Beating a level doesn't
steal the shoe away, looks like Mario better grow some bigger feet!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
New Controls
A few new controls must be talked about before you're on you're adventure!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Item Box
The Item Box returns from SMW. Grabbing two items in a row will store the previous one into the item box.
Pressing [Select] will switch out your current power up with the one in your box. You can't store your
current power up into the box if the box is already empty.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kuribo's Storage
Kuribo's shoe can't swim, so if Mario must get rid of it for any reason, he can do so by pressing
[Up] + [B] at the SAME time. The timing must be right! If successful, a K will appear on the status bar on the
mid-left area. Pessing [Up] + [B] again at the SAME time will retrieve any stored shoe. You can have two
shoes at once this method, so if the shoe you have won't store, be sure there isn't one already in storage!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cheat Codes
That's right! Mario can cheat if he wants! But there are no cheat codes available at the moment except for one!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sound Test
To access the sound test, at the title screen where it says Press Start press the following:
Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Select
Press Left or Right to change track an A to play the track.

FAQ (SPOILERS HERE!)
1. I can't find the way out of this level!
Try searchin again, or collecting many coins.
2. How come the exit doesn't appear in the level that requires you to get coins?
Move around the level a bit, make sure the screen scrolls because if you get the last coin
on the same screen the door is suppose to appear, it won't show up, moving off the screen to a different
part of a level and back will make it appear.
3. How come my last item went away?
If you have a full inventory, grabbing items will erase your last item. So if your last item is a key, DO
NOT GET ANOTHER ITEM. Keys cannot be gotten twice!
4. Why does it rain/snow?
That is randomly determined part of the game. It adds more variety and keeps you on your toes and is
a neat effect!
5. What if I find a bug?
Unless it actually affects game play in a bad way, don't report it (i.e. don't report graphical problems).
6. Can I have some of the hacks in Mario Adventure for my hack?
Nope, sorry.
7. Are you going to work on Mario Seasons anymore?
For the moment, no. I may pick it back up later.
