Now this one is interesting! While most of the levels are the same the physics themselves have been changed, gravity is much lower and the longer you hold the jump button the shorter your jumps. The fireballs have been replaced by laser beams, rendering them useless against short enemies on the ground. For whatever reason the water levels have been edited, making them almost impossible to complete.
A hack by ROMulus
Patch to Super Mario Bros. 1 without Title Screen
Versions:
Final
This is the first and final release. Everything I wanted to change has
been altered. There is one level alteration (swimming level) and
numerous graphic, text, and palette modifications. There is also
fireball and jump alterations.
Information on the game:
Story: Mario is sitting around his house, enjoying a fresh beverage. He is awaiting Princess
Peach's arrival to his home. He hears a knock on his door and goes to answer it to find
a henchman of King Bowser. It's one of the Hammer Bros. He knocks Mario unconsious with
one of his hammers and carries Mario off to a rocketship. He plants Mario in it and sets
it off.
Hours later, Mario wakes up to a large shudder. He looks out the window to see that he is
on the moon! Luckily for him, there is a space suit on board, so Mario puts it on. He
starts walking around to discover eight moon bases scattered around. He decides to
explore one by one, seeing as he needs a way to get home. As he walks away, four goombas
come by and steal the rocket ship and take it to the most distant moon base, all without
Mario knowing! Now Mario must look in all the bases for batteries to recharge his ship
and get his rocket again! Will Bowser, the mastermind behind all this mayhem finally be
victorious, or will Mario once again foil his evil intentions like always? Play to find
out!
Gameplay: This is the first Super Mario Bros. You know the drill, reach the flag at the end of
each level to advance to the next. There are various warp zones, power ups, and such
to aid you on your quest.
There is a couple new aspects to the game that I should explain. You are on the moon,
and therefore gravity is reduced. In this game, I was able to "simulate" Moon Gravity.
To control it is easy. The longer you hold the A button, the shorter you jump. It's
just the opposite to jump really high. Do not go beyond the flag however, or you'll be
stuck forever!
The fireballs (now lasers) shoot straight forward instead of boucing. They cannot kill
everything as they go over the heads of shorter enemies. This adds to the difficultly,
so pick and choose your targets well in advance!
Graphics: Most of the stuff in the game has been altered in some manner. Many of them have moon
themes now. For example, all living things (including Mario) wear a breathing helmet.
There are space rocks, stars, the moon, and you now get larger by donning an extra air
tank. It's a blaster instead of a fire flower, and a bunch of other things to see.
You truly feel like Mario is on the moon!
Levels: I altered only one level, and there is a reason. I have other projects as of now too,
and I didn't have the time to alter all the levels in Mario's Moon Adventure. I only
changed the water level. I made it into a flying space level where Mario must hover
over a gigantic moon crater. It's much more difficult than before, so enjoy!
Hexposure- Love this program so much! Thank you Snowbro (made this program), THANK YOU, THANK
YOU, THANK YOU! I used it to:
-Alter graphic combinations
-Change text
-Create a Title Screen
-Alter palette
-Alter jumping altitude
-Alter Fireball pattern.
YY Map Editor(for Super Mario Bros. 1)- Another program that is good enough to have money charged
for it! Allows practically COMPLETE level changing on
either version of Mario! Out-does Mario Improvement in
so many ways. Allows baddie editing is just one of them!
So you Mario Improvment users, stop using that and use
this Windows 95/98 based program, you won't regret it!
NESticle Version X.XX- Huh? Did I put this? Yes I did. For finding out Hex values so I could
create tables for text editing, Hex values for graphic combination editing,
and for finding Hex values for palette editing, this emulator allows it!
Without Nesticle, the palettes probably wouldn't have changed and the
graphics would be absolutly horrible looking!
SNES Tool- Used for creating my .IPS files. Thanks to this my downloads on my webpage are legal!
Plus, they take up less room!
Tile Layer- Snowbro does it again! Allowed Double file editing, so I could cut and paste
different graphics from different games! This is one versatile program! The only
drawback is it is DOS based, but who's complaining!?
Special Thanks:
Nintendo- For making such great games!
Snowbro- For your great software!
To the other hackers- It's nice to know that there are people out there who understand what your
saying (my family doesn't)!
The maker of YY Map Editor- Keep it up with the good work!
The maker of NESticle- Great Emulator!
The hackers of Mario MCB (MCBee made this one). I borrowed some of the graphics in your hacks. Sorry
if it angers you but it makes the game look great thanks to your great graphic art skills.
I couldn't have done an overhaul on my game's graphics without your indirect help
(you didn't volunteer, that makes it indirect). Thank you!
And to everyone who has played my hacks!
