Summer Carnival '92: Recca - Pure is a modified version of the NES shoot 'em up game Recca, released by Naxat Soft in 1992. This hack enhances the original title by making alternate game modes accessible from the start, featuring a new title screen and translated sound test. Players can toggle between Standard, Hard, and Zanki Attack modes, each with unique gameplay mechanics and challenges.
Most people don't know that there are alternate modes of the game Recca, which are accessed by very obscure means.
This hack makes them selectable from the start, adds a new title screen and translates the sound test mode as well (See the readme on how to access this).
New Modes:
Hard: 7 levels as opposed to the 4 normally available. Can be toggled on or off with Select on the title screen.
Zanki Attack: Same as either normal or hard mode with three differences: enemies explode into bullets, you start with 50 lives and there is no ending sequence. Score is determined by how many lives you have left when you beat the game.

Usage

Apply the IPS patch to a clean copy of the Recca ROM.
The GoodNES naming convention of the game is
"Summer Carnival '92 - Recca (J) [!].nes"
Recca - Pure (Recca Hack).ips is the hack with a new title screen.
Recca - Pure (Recca Hack - Alternate Title Screen).ips, surprise, has
a different title screen which is truer to the original game's.
What is it?

Two days ago, I released a hack of Recca called "Recca - X10DED". This
enabled the game's hard mode by default, and not much else.
However, I discovered almost as soon as I'd released it that there was
a sound test mode, and another game mode. It also came to my attention
that the secret Stage Select mode was rendered useless by my method of
forcing the game to load Hard Mode. It was also impossible to play
Normal Mode by beating the game (The usual method of unlocking Hard).
So I decided to make a proper hack of Recca..
The result is Recca - Pure.
