Super Mario Bros.: Sonic in SMB1 is a ROM hack of the classic Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System. This modification replaces Mario with Sonic the Hedgehog, incorporating gameplay elements inspired by the Sonic series. Sonic exhibits unique movement mechanics, such as automatic acceleration, rolling capabilities, and altered jump physics, providing a distinct experience while reminiscent of 2D platforming.
A character hack of Super Mario Bros. that replaces the famous plumber with the equally-famous (okay, not really) hedgehog. Features drastic changes made to emulate the Genesis Sonic games.

Sonic in Super Mario Bros. information guide
This is a ROM hack of the original Super Mario Bros. that replaces Mario with his greatest rival, Sonic the Hedgehog.
More information below, as well as a guide on how to play it.
How to Play:
To play this hack, you'll need an NES emulator, such as FCEUX or Nestopia, as well as a ROM patcher, such as Flips.
If you have an emulator and a ROM patcher (and know how to use them), you're good to go!
Physics Differences:
As mentioned above, this is a hack of Super Mario Bros. that replaces Mario with Sonic. While there are a lot of hacks like that out there,
some of which... aren't exactly the greatest *cough* Sonic Bros. *cough*, what sets this hack apart from the others is that instead of just
being a reskin of Mario, Sonic actually controls like Sonic.
Here's a list of all the differences from the game's original physics:
Sonic accelerates automatically when walking instead of you having to hold B. He's also considerably faster because, you know, Sonic.
It takes longer for him to get to full speed compared to Mario, though.
Sonic curls into a ball when he jumps, and also jumps a bit higher compared to Mario. His speed doesn't affect his jump height, though.
Sonic also falls slightly slower compared to Mario.
Perhaps the notable change of the bunch, Sonic has the ability to roll, which is done by holding Down while moving. It can be done as Small
or normal Sonic, and works just like it does in the original games.
If you have experience with 2D Sonic games, you shouldn't have any problems adjusting to this. If you don't, though, it could be a problem.
Changelog:
Version 2.5:
Sonic's jump finally works the way it should.
Rolling has been added.
Sonic's sprites have been improved slightly.
Tails' sprite has been adjusted to be a pixel shorter.
There is only one version of the hack again, like in versions before 2.0.
A bonus hack is now included, starring Snick from Pizza Tower.
Version 2.0:
The power-up system has been altered heavily; Sonic is now always in his big state, and Super Mushrooms and Fire Flowers have been replaced with
Shields and Fire Shields, respectively. There is a patch included that reverts the power-up system to how it was in earlier versions.
Sonic no longer has the ability to swim (World 2-2/7-2 has been altered so that it's still beatable).
Numerous sprite changes.
Countless other changes.
Version 1.3:
Changed the title screen.
Sonic's sprites have been tweaked slightly.
The jump physics have been fixed.
Version 1.2:
Fixed the title screen.
Sonic's sprites have been tweaked.
Fixed a mistake in the ending text.
Fixed Big Sonic hitting blocks from a block below them when jumping.
Version 1.1:
Gave Big Sonic's sprites a complete overhaul, changed Tails' sprite as well.
Sonic has new idle sprites and a new crouch sprite.
Tweaked the jump physics slightly.
Added the lower half of Sonic's climbing sprite because I forgot to before (oops).
Slight text changes.
Version 1.0:
Release version.
Notes:
Sonic's speed may cause glitches. These glitches include clipping into walls and occasional HUD glitches.
It's possible to jump over the flagpole if you're going too fast.
In some areas (such as the bonus room in World 1-2), it's possible to clip into a wall and get stuck.
Special thanks to GlitchyTSP for his contributions to version 2.0, as well as ThroughT1m3 for his contributions to version 2.5!
