Dragon Warrior III: Sprite Bugfix is a patch for the Nintendo Entertainment System that addresses two graphical sprite issues. The patch corrects the right-facing female fighter's punching animation by adjusting tile locations, and fixes an inconsistency in the old man NPC's foot animation when facing left. These improvements enhance the visual fidelity of the game and will be included in the upcoming Dragon Quest III: Delocalized release.
Dragon Warrior III has two sprites bugs that are addressed by this patch.
First, the right-facing female fighter appears to be punching, but unlike in her left-facing frames, her hand remains extended even though the arm itself retracts. The solution involved mapping out the game's graphical pointer system and altering the addressed tile location.
Also, the old man with staff NPC sprite had a flaw in the original Famicom version with his staff when facing right. The NA localization team rearranged his tiles to fix the issue, but unfortunately created a new problem with his foot animation. A single gigantic foot appears in one left-facing frame and no feet appear in the other, which is inconsistent with the right-facing frames and the behavior of the very similar Famicom sprite. This patch corrects the issue.
Famicom versions of these fixes will appear in the upcoming Dragon Quest III: Delocalized release.
