Super Mario Bros. 3: Super Luigi Bros. 3 (35th Anniversary) is a ROM hack for the Nintendo Entertainment System. This modification replaces Mario with Luigi as the playable character, as he embarks on a quest to rescue Princess Daisy from Bowser. The hack features updated sprite designs and color palettes, enhancing aesthetics while maintaining the gameplay of the original Super Mario Bros. 3.
The second ROM hack commemorating the 35th anniversary of SMB, but with Luigi in SMB3, this time the player has the mission to rescue Princess Daisy from the clutches of the evil Bowser (the same story from the original SMB3 but with Luigi and his respective princess).
This patch aims to change Mario sprites to Luigi's design from the SMB3 of SNES-GBA (some custom sprites were made by Mario_GMD avoid warping that Nintendo didn't fix) preserving the essence of the original game.
The designs were changed to give it greater and better visual and aesthetic quality (avoiding a green Mario and yellow Peach).
For more information check the Readme File. Enjoy the game!!!
V1.2:
-Luigi in battle mode now has his own sprite based on his normal game appearance. (Custom sprites by Mario_GMD).
-Correction of bugs and deformities in some sprites of Luigi completely.
-Correction in the details on the cap for Luigi.
-Now a patch has been made for the European version of the game (or also known as PAL).
My second hack rom after this quarantine is SMB3 but with Luigi and his twin who appears in some games (like Super Mario Galaxy and other games).
This time the player has the mission to rescue Princess Daisy from the clutches of the evil Bowser (the same story from the original SMB3 but replacing Mario with Luigi and Peach with Daisy). This
patch aims to change the green Mario sprites to Luigi's design from the SMB3 of SNES and GBA (some custom sprites were made by me to avoid warping that nintendo didn't fix) preserving the essence
of the original game, this hack rom comes from the 35th anniversary of SMB but with Luigi.
LIST OF GRAPHIC CHANGES (VER. 1.0):
-The title screen was customized changing "Super Mario Bros. 3" by "Super Luigi Bros. 3" as well as the release date of "1988" by "2020".
-The green Mario skin was changed to the SNES-GBA Luigi skin.
-Color palettes have been changed on both players to distinguish them based on the only 2 shades of green known to Luigi from the NES.
-Improved some sprite tiles on Luigi's cap when he takes a mushroom or the leaf (as seen on Mario and Luigi's cap in SMB1).
-Player 1 presents the shade of darker green (this shade of green in Luigi is featured on the title screens and covers of NES games, on the SMB3 map and even in Super Mario Maker 2), while player
2 features the shade of light green (shown in gameplays when playing as Luigi in NES games).
-The color palettes of both Luigi's have been changed when the 2 players face each pther in the battle arena, with player 1 being dark green and player 2 light green.
-The initials on the battle arena markers have been changed from "M" & "L" to "P1" & "P2" (Player 1 and Player 2).
-All sprites have been changed in each Luigi transformation, verifying that they are correct as well as the designs shown on the map to avoid deformations that show a Mario instead of a Luigi (for
this I consult a sprite sheet).
-The sprites of the minigames were changed when the player talks to the toad as well as their color palette from red to green.
-All the skins that are presented on the map have been changed by replacing Mario's designs with Luigi (a sprite sheet was consulted).
-The blocks with a "?" were changed to the number "35" to commemorate 35th anniversary of SMB (again).
-Peach's design was changed to a Daisy (for this I base myself on another sprite sheet).
-The color palettes were changed from darker pink to orange and from light pink to yellow (to make Daisy's presence more noticeable when receiving a letter from her, as in the final cinematic).
-In the final credits, when Water land (USA version) is shown, the color palette was changed from red to green, although this affected the color of the big fish.
-When Luigi Tanooki becomes a statue he still presents the Mario statue sprites (IMPROVE: Now Luigi presents the GBA statue design).
-In the final credits when World 3 "Water land" is presented it still shows Mario's sprites swimming (IMPROVE: The design of Luigi swimming has been customized).
-Small Luigi running jump sprite. (IMPROVE: Luigi's head is no longer deformed by Mario's design and has been adapted correctly).
-Walk animation small Luigi sprite. (RESTORED: Luigi's walking animation has been re-adapted to the logic that Nintendo gave him so that it does not look linear, this is due to missing an extra
sprite due to the size of the design).
-The ears of Luigi's transformations have been modified.
-Star jump (the jump that Luigi takes when he takes a star) in all transformations has been modified by removing the appearance of Mario.
-The growth and shrink animation no longer features the Mario appearance.
-Correction in the swimming animation of the Hammer Suit and Tanooki Suit.
-Restoration of some sprites in some game designs.
-When luigi looks up in the intro his head no longer deforms (IMPROVE: his design has been personalized modifying his head looking up).
-Some inconsistencies in other sprites and layouts have been modified.
-Luigi in battle mode now has his own sprite based on his normal game appearance. (Custom sprites by me).
-Correction of bugs and some deformities in some sprites of Luigi.
-Correction in the details on the cap for Luigi.
-The star jump sprite has been redone in Tanooki's suit.
-Now a patch has been made for the European version of the game (or also known as PAL).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: due to the limitations of the NES there are some sprites that have not been modified yet such like:
-The Giant blocks with the "?" that appear in world 4 "Giant land" (in SMB3 USA) were not changed to the number "35" due to graphic errors that appear when the player hits them.
-When Player 1 is on the map and takes a cloud to jump to another level, he changes Luigi's color palette from green to red for some strange reason.
To play it you will need a patch program like Lunar IPS and a clean rom of SMB. Look for a rom like: Super Mario Bros. 3 (USA) (Rev A)
For the PAL version use a rom like: Super Mario Bros. 3 (Europe)
Thank you Nintendo for 35 Years of Super Mario Bros.!!!!
