Super Mario Bros. 3: Crowned Edition is a ROM hack of the original Super Mario Bros. 3, developed for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Endorsed by Kazufox, this version introduces subtle changes such as replacing Mushrooms with Super Crowns and modifying text for clarity. It also features a unique ending and offers increased difficulty compared to the U.S. version, enhancing the gameplay experience for players.
This ROM hack is endorsed by Kazufox, original creator of the SMB Crowned ROM hacks.
This is SMB3 Japan: Crowned Edition. It may seem like a carbon copy of the original version, but here are some differences:
-The Nintendo logo is unchanged.
-Instead of replacing Mushrooms, Super Crowns replace the orbs that drop when you defeat Boom Boom.
-The text is slightly more straightforward in most scenarios.
-The ending is different...
If you wonder why the author decided to do the Japanese version, the main reason why is because in the original ROM hacks, he didn't like the endings, so he asked permission from Kazufox to make his own versions on the Japanese versions of the games.
It's also to give the players a challenge since the Japanese version may be slightly harder. (Like in SMB3, where Japan shrinks Mario down upon damage, but in the US, it simply makes him turn back into Super Mario.
Rejected Concepts:
-Leaving map elements & title screen unchanged to make it seem like a normal SMB3 game at first.
-Leaving Toads in Toad Houses unchanged for "variety". (Originally a mistake)
-Adding a Kuribo's Shoe in World 7-7
-Adding the Frog Suit to World 7-4
-Adding the unused levels as secret areas
