Z22: The Adventure of Link and Lonk is a ROM hack of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for the Nintendo Entertainment System, released in 2019. This hack introduces a second playable character, Lonk, a nearly identical clone of Link, enhancing cooperative gameplay. Players share health and experience, and difficulty can be adjusted through save files. The hack also includes minor enemy reprogramming for dual-player contexts.
This is a hack of Zelda 2 that was made during the Summer of 2019. It's an ASM hack that adds a second player named Lonk. Lonk is an almost perfect clone of Link and fully compatible with everything in the game. He is the main feature of this hack but there are some more features added as well.
Some, but not all, enemies have been reprogrammed to let them target Lonk. Both players share HP and levels, but despite this the game is quite a bit easier with two players.
There is a difficulty selection based on which file you play on. File 1 is normal/unchanged. File 2 is Easy Mode, which halves enemy damage. File 3 is Hard Mode, which doubles enemy damage.
This is version 1.1, which fixes a ton of bugs from the original unreleased version. It also adds Lonk on the overworld. You can't control him, but he follows Link around.

What is this? It's a ROM hack of Zelda 2 that adds a second player, controller by player 2.
The second player is the orangered Lonk.
Lonk is an ~almost~ perfect clone of Link and fully compatible with everything in the game.
Lonk can not open the menu or activate magic, but pushing select lets him teleport to Link.
Both players share health and levels.
Some enemies have been reprogrammed to take Lonk into account, but overall the game is much easier with two players.
Because of this, I added a difficulty selection. Choosing the first save file will have everything working as normal.
The second save file will enable Easy Mode, which halves the damage done by enemies.
The third save file will enable Hard Mode, which doubles the damage done by enemies.
My only regret is how trivial the final boss is. Unfortunately, his AI is very different from the other bosses.
Because of this I wasn't able to make him take Lonk into account so it's very easy to repeatedly sucker punch him.
Known issues:
- Lonk bounces 1-2 pixels further back thank Link upon hitting a wall with his sword
- Lonk will sometimes stop when running across a crumbling bridge (jump to get around this)
- Dark Link gets bodied by Lonk
- Some rooms that previously ran fine now have slowdown due to the game processing Lonk
