Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin - Progenitors is a very traditional Castlevania ROM hack. It simply replaces the alternate mode characters with new and different ones, and unlocks every mode from the start.

[Notes on Jonathan/Bloodlines Mode]:
- Many of the sub-weapons used on the new players may be a bit overtuned for Jonathan Mode.
- Some sub-weapons may come pre-mastered.
- The scenes related to the Whip's Memory have been slightly altered.
- Added a small amount of item/skill pickups (like 4 in total).
- The map/enemy balance has NOT been altered in any way (with the exception of two bosses)*.
- The attributes of Martial Arts, like the Flame Fist Tackle's, couldn't be changed.

[Why no adult/Bloodlines Eric]:
- Bloodlines Eric's sprite set in the DSvania/Castlevania Fighter style not being completed yet.
- Young Eric being more fitting to be replaced over Maria since he's shorter than John and it makes his collision look less awkward.
- Young Eric having a few more interesting moves than Bloodlines Eric.
This was made as a side project with the free time and effort of many members of the community, just have fun with it!

[Known bugs]:
- A new sub weapons sprites might vanish once in awhile just cycle them to fix it. (or just avoid swapping between Eric and John too much).
- The Water Dragon's segments are animated due to the changes made to its (Salamander's) code to make the flame animations not play.

Bloodlines, the Water Dragon.

Yet another update by Masked Dedede, this one having balancing fixes thanks to player feedback and further testing done after the previous update.
Masked Dedede:
- Applied the ASM patch to fix the Death softlock for Jonathan Mode
- Fixed the bug where one frame of Fake Trevor's mid-air attack animation would rarely appear and hit the player
- Adjusted some of Eric's sprites and animations
- Adjusted Eric's jump kick and jumping animations' hitboxes and hurtboxes
- Lowered the cost of most Martial Arts
- Lowered the cost of John and Eric's weapons' Critical Arts
- Buffed Fuuma's Venom Shuriken a bit and raised its MP cost a bit
- Buffed Fuuma's War Drum a bit and raised its MP cost a bit
- Raised the MP cost of John's Flame Fist Charge and Fuuma's Pulse Blade Barrage
- Rebalanced Eric's Grand Cross a bit
- Moved Fuuma's Slide Jump hitboxes a bit forward
- Changed Fuuma's Pulse Blade Barrage input from (Right, Right + Y) to (Up, Left, Down, Right + Y)
- Gave Fuuma the Pulse Blade Combo
- Made Fuuma's regular attack hitboxes slightly more consistent
- Gave Poison weakness to Fake Trevor to make his fight less tedious as Fuuma in Hard Max Level 01*
- Gave Fuuma a better animation for when he gets vacuumed by Persephone :^)

- Replaced the "Sanfall" theme from the Forgotten City's outside area with "Go! Getsu Fuuma"

Another update thanks to Masked Dedede with more tuning to the character animations, some cosmetic and rebalancing changes, and fixing a few things we forgot to edit.
Masked Dedede:
- Added some new animations for John made by EchidKnux
- Fixed the Boomerang's attribute being Strike instead of Slash
- Fixed the Poison and Curse status palettes for all three characters
- Added a new crouching attack end animation to replace the old one
- Added an Aerial Kick as one of John's Martial Arts
- Edited John's Combo Martial Art animations to add more variety
- Edited the Undulating Whip animations to be more like the Bloodlines originals
- Added a new turn around animation for Eric made by Vedora-Kingdom
- Added some afterimages to Eric's spinning attack animation
- Edited some of Fuuma's animations, mostly the ones where he spins
- Made Fuuma's War Drum more like the Harmony of Despair version
- Edited the Kunai to now be the Venom Shuriken so that Fuuma has a full set of 8-bit skills
- Adjusted some a few item names and descriptions

A bonus update thanks to Masked Dedede for his dedication with fine-tuning the three characters further and added some more things. We've also noticed that Grand Cross
was scaling way too hard for Eric at later levels, both this and the Stopwatch received a slight nerf.

- Polished up a few more of John's sprites and animation timings
- Added a frame to John's turning and stopping animations
- Edited the Boomerang's palette to have the same yellow coloring as its icon
- Adjusted more of Eric's animations and timings
- Added the new walk and idle for Eric made by Vedora-Kingdom

- Added more taking damage animation variants for Fuuma
