Phantasy Star II: Less Stupid Camera is a modification for the Sega Genesis game Phantasy Star II that enhances the camera mechanics by updating its position with each player movement rather than at fixed distances from the screen edge. While the camera does not readjust when returning from the edge, random encounters will recenter it. This hack aims to improve gameplay experience, though it may have unknown effects on cutscenes.
This hack updates Phantasy Star 2's camera whenever the player moves, instead of when the player reaches an arbitrary distance from the edge of the screen.
Currently, the camera does not correct itself if the player reaches the visible edge of a map and moves back towards the center of the map. The frequent random encounters and map transitions will recenter the camera.
This hack is no longer publicly available.
This is a pretty straight-forward baby's first hack that just makes the camera position update every step. The camera doesn't fix itself if you move back after getting close the map's border, but random encounters re-center the screen, so it shouldn't be a huge deal. No idea if this messes up cutscenes or not - as I built this to make my own playthrough less frustrating.
Thanks to lory1990, the person that created the Phantasy Star II Disassembly. Without them, this hack would not have been possible.
If anybody wants to improve this hack by, like, making the camera recover from reaching the screen's edge, feel free.
Now get back to investigating the monster outbreak!
