Shin Megami Tensei if...: Domain of Sloth Doubled Speed is a patch for the Super Nintendo version of Shin Megami Tensei if... that reduces the time required to complete the Domain of Sloth from six moon cycles to three. This modification allows workers to progress every half-cycle instead of a full cycle, improving gameplay pacing. The patch also includes instructions for further speed adjustments using RAM memory editing.
The Domain of Sloth requires you to twiddle your thumbs for 6 complete moon cycles in order to complete it, which is an agonizingly long period of time. This was such a terrible design decision the developers apologized by halving the number of cycles required in the PSX remake. This patch brings that improvement to the SNES version. (Specifically, it makes the workers advance once every half-cycle instead of requiring a full cycle.)
Remember that you still need to talk to the guard on the upper floor to reset the counter every time the workers progress!
Patches must be matched to the correct versions, because the EN translation changes the location of the relevant code.
If you wish to accelerate the speed even further, the provided readme file has instructions to do so provided you have a RAM memory editor such as bsnes+.
If you wish to speed up the digging even further, you can use a memory editor. Here are the relevant RAM values:
$036F: Countdown to next advancement. Decrements every moon phase change. Note that if you want an immediate advancement you need to set it to 01, not 00, as it is only checked *after* decrement and if it rolls over it just resets the countdown instead of advancing.
$0E0C-$0E15: Event flags for tunnel progress. If you just want to skip the wait entirely, set all of them to FF to instantly complete all the tunnels.
If you want to make your own hack that modifies the countdown values, they are stored at:
(values given in LoROM format)
$21BABF
$21BAC3
$21BAC7
$21BACB
$21BACF
$21BAD3
$21BAD7
There are multiple because a separate entry is read for every advancement. By default they are set to 10 (16 in decimal); this patch changes them to 08.
