    LUFIA & THE FORTRESS OF DOOM RESTORED
    v3.1 (Nov 19 2022)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Within this archive are two patches.

    * Lufia1Restored_v31.IPS
    The primary project patch. Contains all features as listed in the overview.

    * AlwaysRetryMode.IPS (by justin3009)
    This allows players to start a game in Retry Mode (4x EXP/gold) without needing to unlock it
    first.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The sequels to Lufia & the Fortress of Doom reveal the dated aspects of the first entry.
    Inconsistent terms and names, like the revival spell Dead or the elfin girl Mirka, and the
    requisite slow walking speed on the world map and in dungeons.

    When my part on Frue Lufia was done, I turned toward the first title to fix its worst issues.
    Mercifully, D had released his censorship removal mod first. All it took was restoring certain
    texts to match English canon. It would be remiss to not mention rainponcho's contributions of
    restoring item descriptions and finalizing the walking speed improvements, nor Ok Impala!
    reducing the encounter rate. And if you use Always Retry Mode? Please be sure to thank Justin!

    Fans around the world came together to make the definitive editions of each Lufia title.
    I sincerely hope that all players enjoy them.

    The random encounter rate has been reduced by 50%. Armor Clear Silk no longer increases the

    so be careful! (Credit: Justin3009)

    the other 2 Might-line defensive equipment drop from enemies Roam Armor and Barient.)

    - Original font variant patch removed.

    - 8x16 dialogue font changed to a modified version of Lufia II's.

    - 8x8 menu font's lowercase p, q, and y modified for readability.

    - Labels for post-game Results screen updated for clarity.

    - 3 item names updated for consistency with later games in the trilogy.
    (Seethru Silk -> Sheer Silk
    Might Helmet -> Might Helm
    Small Knife -> Cleaver)

    - 4 spell names updated to match later games in the trilogy.
    (Thunder -> Storm
    Elegi -> Ray

    Elegion -> Thunder)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    v2.4.3 (Dec 30 2021)

    - No changes to the main patches. Added optional "Always Retry Mode" addendum that allows players
    to unlock Retry Mode (formerly "Try Again" mode; gives quadruple EXP and gold) without needing to
    beat the game. (Credit: Justin3009)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    v2.4.1 (Sep 21 2018)

    GENERAL:
    - Based on Lufia Decensored by D. Bunny girls return to Forfeit, priests return to churches, alcohol
    can now be bought rather than cider, Gades' line in Sheran is tidied up.
    Note: Reverted changes D made to character and magic names in Lufia Decensored.

    - Header of base and output ROM have been assured to match.

    - The dialogue printing noise is present when Message Speed is set to "Fast", just like the Japanese
    original. (Credit: rainponcho)

    - ROM is expanded to 1.5 MB to accommodate Ruan church crosses and item descriptions.

    GAMEPLAY:
    - Walking speed increased, by a combination of improvements thanks to JCE3000GT and rainponcho.
    * Walking speed on the world map and in dungeons increased to speed in towns.
    * Vehicle movement speed increased.
    * Characters no longer decrease in speed when disembarking a vehicle.
    * Sweet Water/Foul Water cannot expire in towns, and their expiration notices properly appear.
    * Unfortunately, as a result characters no longer take damage from Poison while wandering the
    world map or dungeons.

    - Guard Daos now uses its full move set from the Japanese original.
    * Chaos
    * Destroy
    * Amnesia
    * Wail
    * Melanchoy (Sorrowful)
    (Note: It appears to do nothing, but this is intended.)
    * Glacier
    * Vulcan
    * Flood
    * Elegion (Thunder)
    * Dread

    - Selan and Lufia can now equip: Zircon Rod, Zircon Robe, Zircon Wrist, Zircon Beret.
    Selan begins the prologue equipped with the Zircon Rod and Robe, rather than the Silver Rod and
    Robe.

    - Artea begins the prologue equipped with Mach Heels, rather than Cat Heels. This is to emphasize
    his role as the fastest of the team.

    - When first starting the game or beginning a new playthrough, the audio is set to Stereo rather
    than Mono.

    GRAPHICS:
    - Crosses can now be found on the walls of churches.

    - Optional patch to change the 8x8 (menu) font to a modified version of the one seen in Lufia II.
    The 8x16 (dialogue) font saw some changes as well.

    TEXT:
    - Corrected a bug of overflowing text, caused by D restoring alcohol references.

    - Finished D's item name changes by renaming the Potions as Sources upon requesting them from the
    Egg Dragon, the names of the Source types in doalogue, and changing "Voice of Gloom" to "Voice of
    Death".

    - Restored item descriptions. (Credit: rainponcho) Press the X Button while hovering over an item.
    Rather than receive a fresh translation, most have been pulled from Lufia II and Lufia: The
    Legend Returns. A fair chunk were made up whole-cloth.

    - Corrected several lore terms.
    (Slime -> Jelly
    Mirka -> Milka
    Shilf -> Sylph)

    - Made data management selections consistent with Lufia II.
    (Initial -> Start
    Try Again -> Retry)

    - Corrected grammar of three menu labels.
    (Item's -> Items
    Jeweller -> Jeweler
    EXPER -> EXP.)

    - In the post-battle rewards text, label "gold pcs" was shortened to "gold".
