In the original game, the Lunar Magic spell is notorious for being mostly useless. It costs 8 MP and has weird, random effects on monsters. It's sort of like an easter egg or a joke spell. Amusing, but not actually useful.
But you know how they say, "the bigger they come, the harder they fall?" That's where this hack comes in.
This hack preserves the original kind of funny Lunar Magic behavior, except when cast on bosses. When cast on a boss, the Lunar Magic spell will now be a devastating gravity attack, adding an amusing contrast to its original behavior.
Specific changes:
- When cast on a boss, Lunar Magic will now function like Evil Gate, doing fractional damage based on the target's current HP, except while Evil Gate doesn't work on bosses (without the "More Useful Evil Gate" hack anyway), the Lunar Magic gravity attack will work exclusively on bosses rather than regular enemies. The inverse of Evil Gate.
- Lunar Magic will behave as before when cast on an enemy that is not a boss.
- Lunar Magic now costs 12 MP instead of 8 MP. This limitation helps to offset the fact that using Lunar Magic on a boss (not strong against Luna) basically always does 999 damage.
- Lunar Magic's gravity attack will work on any boss without Luna resistance.
- The following bosses who previously did not have Luna resistance now have Luna resistance: Mech Rider I, Mech Rider II, Mech Rider III, Hexas, and the Mana Beast.
- Those changes have the side effect of making Mech Rider I, Mech Rider II, Mech Rider III, and Hexas weak to Dryad's Burst spell. Since that spell is rather underutilized in the original game, this is an arguably desirable side effect.
Some important things to note:
- This hack is compatible with "Easier or Harder Monsters" and "Harder Final Boss," but only if this hack is applied after.
- This hack is compatible with "More Useful Evil Gate" but the patching order will determine the boss weaknesses. If you want Mech Rider III and Hexas to be weak to Lumina, then apply this hack first. If you want Mech Rider III and Hexas to be weak to Dryad, then apply this hack after "More Useful Evil Gate."
