Final Fantasy III: Precious Jewels is a fan-made patch for the Super Nintendo version of the game, designed to fix the glitch tied to the Gem Box in Fanatics' Tower. Players are wrongly confronted by cultists even if they do not open the chest. This patch prevents the battle trigger from activating unless the Gem Box is actually taken, enhancing the game's experience and reducing frustration.
The cultists living at the Fanatics' Tower seem to be psychic; if you try to steal the Gem Box from the top, they will be on you pretty quickly. However, these "psychics" aren't perfect; they cannot foresee the possibility that you just stand in front of the chest but don't open it. They will still come up to you and demand that you return the treasure. This patch ensures that you will not be punished for a crime you didn't commit.

PURPOSE:
The Fanatics' Tower's Gem Box room has a trigger in place that allows the "battle against MagiMaster" event to happen. The battle supposedly happens because you stole the Gem Box from the top of the tower, because a bunch of cultists get in your way so you can't escape the fight. However, this can happen even if you don't actually take the Gem Box, because the trigger is set off by merely stepping in front of the chest, not by actually opening the chest. This patch ensures that you will not be surrounded by cultists unless you actually have the Gem Box.
