There are two events in the game that do not properly account for the possibility that Gau is on the Veldt. One of those events is the party selection at Zozo after getting the first Magicite, and the other is the return to Zozo after the Magitek Research Facility caper. The anomaly with the first event means that your remaining party members will not go to Narshe, meaning you cannot swap out with them until you have the airship; however, the second anomaly prevents this from happening because after the Esper World flashback, one of your party members will be positioned where Terra is supposed to get off the bed, meaning the game cannot advance. This patch corrects both events.

PATCH INFORMATION:
All PS1 patches include undo data.
SNES patches work on ROM v1.0 or v1.1.
URGENCY:
High to extreme. A sensible person won't even bother going all the way to the Veldt and back just to leave Gau there, but it does freeze the game and at a certain point it's too late to do anything about it.
PURPOSE:
When the Square programmers wrote the event scripts for the game, they forgot to correctly account for the possibility of Gau being left on the Veldt during certain moments before you've obtained the airship Blackjack. One such case is after you've met Ramuh in Zozo; if Gau is absent, then any characters you choose to leave out of your party headed for Vector will not leave for Narshe and will not be in Narshe if you decide to change your lineup later.
Another case is after you have rescued the Espers from the Magitek Research Facility and are back in Zozo to see Terra. If Gau is on the Veldt, not only will your reserve Returners not be there, but after the Esper World flashback, one of your party members will be positioned on top of Locke, next to the bed so that Terra cannot get off the bed, meaning the game cannot progress. This patch fixes both events to work properly.
