Star Fox 2: Star Fox 2 - 52MHz Overclockable is a modified version of the original Star Fox 2 for Super Nintendo that enables the Super FX Chip to be overclocked to 52MHz by replacing the cartridge's crystal oscillator. This hack results in improved performance but may cause overheating during extended play. Note that the game glitches when running above 27MHz in its original state.
This patch allows Star Fox 2's Super FX Chip to be overclocked up to 52MHz by physically replacing the cart's crystal oscillator. The original ROM will glitch when overclocked to any speed above 27MHz.

This is a hacked version of the 2017 official SNES Classic Mini Star Fox 2. This allows its Super FX Chip to be overclocked to 50-52MHz by changing its crystal oscillator. The original rom will glitch at any speed above 27MHz.

TheRealPhoenix:
I haven't tested it on a real console, but the behaviour on the SNES9X version I used to debug is the same as the Star Fox 2 Beta Overclock that I made before (over-slowed down because double speed mode is now deactivated). I haven't changed the checksum nor the inner title of the game.
Warning: At 50MHz the Super FX chip may get hot after prolonged periods of play.
SmokeMonster: I asked TRF if any speed oscillator would work, such as 33MHz.
TheRealPhoenix's Response: There's no really a physical specific range for the oscillator. I can goes to 0 to 52Mhz. But this is more a logical limitation.
Let me explain:
The Super FX (Mario FX, GSU-1 or 2) is designed to work at 21.4Mhz.
The GSU-1 introduced the "double speed" mode, which allows to handle more instructions at the same times so virtually "double" the speed ( 2 x 21.4Mhz, so virtually 42.8Mhz, but this is not quite true since a 50mhz Starfox 2 - edited rom, double speed deactivated - is running faster than an unedited Starfox 2 @25mhz.)
The ROM I gave you have its double speed deactivated so with an 33Mhz oscillator the game will run at... 33Mhz, so slower than an unedited ROM. And if you try to use the 33Mhz on unedited ROM, the game will crash (because 2 x 33Mhz).
If you are familiar with PC overclocking, this is when you start playing with the multiplicator of your CPU in order to gain higher frequencies: some mono-thread instructions will gain greatly from this jump of brute force.
However, as I told you, this put some stress on the Super FX, and it gets quite hot (more than usual).
