Luigi and Bowser are on a race to find the hidden treasure on the island! Who will make it to there first?
This hack has all the levels changed, graphics changed, and an extra challenge from those used to the original Super Mario World experience. Please consult the Read-me included with the patch for more detailed information.
Super Luigi World: Luigi's Quest by Yashum
That's my first COMPLETE hack of SMW.
Don't expect incredible ASM experiences on this hack! Only recently I found out about all ASM hacking stuff!
Yashum's history (You're free to skip this part)-------------------------------------
Since I was a kid, I played SMW with great joy. I always loved Mario games and gradually (as, I believe, started happening with all SMW hackers) I started imaging and drawing possible levels for SMW. It was then that I discovered Lunar Magic and numberous hacks made with it.
As I was messing with LM's capabilities, I made my first hack, with levels only on the Overworld (I could not link submaps properly...), which were very poor initially, I must say, but became great towards the end. Unfortunatelly, I lost this hack as time passed (I caught a virus, and thus, an HD formatation), but with the new knowledge I had, Super Luigi World: Luigi's Quest! came to mind.
When I began making this hack, I was full of ideas and inspiration. Then, I lost Internet (Dull times, that still prevail) and lost track of ASM improvements as well. Without ASM I could not do all I wanted before and almost gave up. Family and friends gave me new ideas and cheered me all the time. Finally I finished the hack (After facing blackouts, life issues, study, mother's low patience and etc...) and after some more time, I could find the perfect site to host it: SMWCentral.
About SLW:LQ!---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I said earlier, this is my first COMPLETE attempt at hacking SMW. It has start, middle and end and I should mention it's aimed at those who found the original SMW too easy or repetitive.
When you play it you'll probably think it's getting hard too fast, but it's not totally true. This hack was made to be played at a calm pace, where you must think before doing something dangerous or finding some secret. Also, I never did something like this: level 1 - easy, level 2 - medium, level 3 - hard, level 4 - hard, level 5 - hard... I placed levels in a way that you'll face a hard challenge, and then a easy or fun one, then a preparatory one, and then a hard one again. So I repeat, I made this hack for those with good gaming skills.
About the ExGFX... Each one I made myself, and even the two ones that obviously are not mine, I drew too because I had a hard time ripping them and decided drawing them was the best choice (Lame, I know...). You can see which are these at the end of this file (Not on the credits screen, you'll see why...) and unless you want to spoil the surprise, I recomend finishing the hack first.
One more thing about the ExGFX is that they're not that beautiful at the start of the hack, but they'll get nicer as you progress (That's because I've improved drawing them as I made the hack).
I'll ask you to please DON'T rip, copy, claim, use or whatever them in any way! If you liked my graphic style and want to request it (Which I highly believe that will not happen ^^) PM me at SMWCentral, and I'll help you to the best I can.
Ummm... Wanna know when you finished the hack? Well, technically it has 96 exits (Coincidentally, I swear!), but you've actually beaten the hack when a level appear to the north of Greenstar Summit. Also, you'll need all four Switch Palaces and a good memory to end this hack, so keep your eyes open!
SLW:LQ! Issues---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Red Switch Palace don't stay pressed on the Overworld. I think it's probably related to the map it's on...
-I avoided making vertical levels because of that BG scrolling problem, and the ones I made get the BG messed SOMETIMES, I don't understand why...
-Some puzzles of this hack cannot be "recycled". Once you screw up, you'll have to start the level (Or mid-point) again or kill youlself to try again. This is not reaaaaally a issue, but a warning. Since extra lifes are no problem on this hack, I think skill comes from errors. The puzzles are not incredible hard anyway.... OBS: When I release a new hack, I will continue this line of gameplay!
-I could not fully improve player 2 palletes on the overworld. Player 2 Luigi has a strange greenish skin due to the border's color sharing the same color he has.
-The message after Bowser battle still shows the classic SMW message. Ignore it, please.
I think that's all. If you find anything weird, PM me and I'll fix that imediatelly if I can.
Wow, that thing got really long, huh? Sorry, but I love writing!
Now for the credits (Beware, spoiling ahead!).
