Final Fantasy III Walk This Way is a bug fix patch for the Super Nintendo version of Final Fantasy III, also known as Final Fantasy VI in Japan. This patch addresses issues related to diagonal movement on staircases, preventing healing or damage effects from poison and Tintinabar, and resolves unintended movement issues for the character Terra in Zone Eater Cave. Various patch formats are provided for different ROM types.
When you are walking up or down diagonally on stairs, you do not receive any damage from poison or healing from Tintinabar. Also, certain event bits do not reset as they should upon taking a step. This patch corrects these problems along with another walking problem: if Terra is walking inside Zone Eater Cave when the ceiling falls, she'll take an extra step forward, which can lead her to places like off a ledge and past an exit and off into the wild black yonder.

PURPOSE:
The diagonal staircases in this game are a cool feature and all, but the way walking on them is accomplished is a bit neglectful as healing or damaging steps do not count; in other words, Tintinabar and Poison mean nothing when walking on stairs. This patch makes them kick in as expected.
This is a bug that was also fixed by Lenophis's "Fancy Walking" patch, but that patch also introduced a new bug wherein you can talk to NPCs on the stairs while walking, and if you do, the camera will keep scrolling in the direction you were moving until the conversation ends. This patch does not have that bug.
Another bug this patch fixes is specific to Terra. If she is walking around when the ceiling falls in Zone Eater Cave, she will walk an extra step in the same direction, which can cause her to walk places like off a ledge or past the room exits.
